Elm was scorned by traditional carvers but its fast growth leaving large annual rings makes the grain visible from afar........which is to say all woods have their strong points except one ......and that is Black Walnut which has only GREAT points....there is no other...if you have never seen a richly oiled piece of Black Walnut than there is nothing I can say because a picture can only do so much ...but without further ado...To see Yoknapatawpha (Faulkner's mythical county) in Black Walnut see the next Piece.
